NEW DELHI: A man poured adhesive into a 26-year-old woman's mouth and allegedly raped her in south Delhi's Chhatarpur area. He then tried to electrocute her with an immersion rod.

However, a power cut saved the woman's life. She also managed to inform her husband about the incident before falling unconscious.

The woman, a housewife, said the accused had entered her house through the terrace around 11am on Friday when she was washing clothes in the bathroom. She added that he suddenly held her from behind and poured adhesive into her eyes and mouth because of which he could not raise an alarm.

The man then raped her, the woman said. Following this, the man picked up an immersion road and tried to strangle her with its wire. He also tried to electrocute her by plugging the wire into a switch, but failed as there was no power, the woman said. The man then removed her jewellery and fled.

"I reached home and found my wife unconscious. We took her to a hospital where she was treated for her injuries," said the woman's husband.

On the woman's complaint, a case under sections of rape and attempt to murder was registered on Saturday. Police said they have identified the accused who works in a shoe manufacturing factory in the area and lives in the same locality.

A sketch of the accused has been prepared based on the description given by the woman, police said. The couple had shifted to the two-room rented accommodation a year back from their village in West Bengal.
