Vehicles submerged at Maulana Azad Stadium where yoga day was celebrated

Heavy rains hit Jammu on Tuesday causing water logging in several regions. Incessant rains in Udhampur triggered landslide along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway blocking traffic in the area. A drain breakage caused water logging after heavy rainfall.

Maulana Azad Stadium in Jammu where Yoga Day celebrations were held is also flooded. Around 20 vehicles have been submerged in the water.  A lot of people performed yoga exercises at the stadium to mark the second International Yoga Day. The sudden flooding caught participants unaware after which their vehicles submerged in the flood water.

The highway is one of the two routes that connects Srinagar in Kashmir with Jammu city. Landslides after rains in the area is quite common . Earlier this year in March, the route was closed for four days.

The weather department on Monday said that monsoon rains have covered nearly half of the country.  Mumbai also saw its first rains this week, however it proved troublesome with trains services coming to a halt. Western Railway of the Mumbai suburban network came to a halt after someone stole a battery box at the Mahim Electric Sub Station.
