Several people were wounded after a masked man carrying a gun and ammunition belt opened fire inside a cinema complex in Viernheim, Germany, according to German paper Bild Daily. The incident took place at Kinopolis, a movie theater in southwestern Germany.
The gunman has reportedly barricaded himself inside, German media reported.
Bild daily and the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung reported that elite police were on their way to the scene. Initial reports suggest that the to around 20 to 50 people could have caused due to tear gas.
Police spokeswoman Christiane Kobus said she couldn’t give further details of what was happening at the Kinopolis movie theater in the town of Viernheim.
She would not confirm unsourced German media reports that an armed man had entered the movie theater and fired at least one shot.
