Asia Cup 2016 will kick off Today Evening. The Asia Cup. The tournament, which was
started in 1986, will be played in T20 format for the first time.
Bangladesh will host this year’s Asia Cup. Along with four confirmed neighbouring nations India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, one associate nation UAE, will play this big tournament. With the World T20 to follow immediately after this tournament, this is considered a dress-rehearsal for the big occasion.

1. India vs Pakistan, 4th match 2014:
The familiar teams were out in the middle to battle again. The men in green repeated the Sharjah magic to script a historic victory. Pakistan skipper Misbah-ul-Haq won the toss and elected to field. Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan gave India a decent start. Sharma scored 56 runs before getting dismissed by debutant Mohammad Talha.
Dhawan, skipper Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane were dismissed cheaply and India were reeling at 155 for 5 in 36 overs. Ambati Rayudu and Ravindra Jadeja played sensible innings and scored half-centuries to help India post 245 at the end of 50 overs.

In reply, Pakistan were on top right from the beginning. Sharjeel Khan and Ahmed Shehzad shared a 92-run stand for the first wicket. Mohammad Hafeez scored a brilliant a half-century and it looked like the men in green will chase the target with ease. But, they lost the momentum in the middle, Misbah, Umar Akmal and Sohaib Maqsood were out quickly and India were back in the game.
Shahid Afridi was playing his usual game at one end as the wickets were crumbling at the other end. 10 runs were needed from the last over and Ravichandran Ashwin was given the final over. Saeed Ajmal was dismissed in the first ball and there was pressure was all around the park. Junaid Khan, the last wicket for Pakistan, played a single and gave Afridi the last four balls to win the game for Pakistan. Afridi smashed a six over the deep extra cover and 3 runs were required from last balls. Boom Boom Afridi smoked another six into the stands in the very next ball and celebrated in his usual style.
2. India vs Pakistan, 4th match 2010:
Remember the famous on-field battle between Harbhajan Singh and Shoaib Akhtar? This match was a typical India-Pakistan clash that went live down the wire.
Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat. Salman Butt and Imran Farhat gave Pakistan the start they needed. Butt scored 74 runs to set the tone. Kamran Akmal’s fluent half-century and a healthy contribution from Shoaib Malik and skipper Shahid Afridi helped Pakistan to score 267 runs at the end of 50 overs.

With 267 runs required to secure a place in the final, India lost Virender Sehwag early in the game. But Gautham Gambhir and skipper MS Dhoni remained calm and had a 98 run- stand. Gambhir was dismissed by Saeed Ajmal for 82 runs and Dhoni was out for 56.
From 180 for 2, India suddenly collapsed to 219 for 6. Raina and Harbhajan were out in the middle to win the game for India. 16 runs were required from 12 balls, Raina smashed Akhtar for a six and 7 runs were required from last over and Mohammad Amir bowled the last over.
There was a twist in the tale as Raina got run out in the second ball and India needed 6 runs from 4 balls to win the contest. Praveen Kumar nudged 2 runs and took a single in the next ball to hand over the responsibility to Harbhajan. The Turbonator rose to the occasion and smoked a six into mid-wicket to eliminate Pakistan from the tournament.
3. Pakistan vs Bangladesh, Final 2012:
One of the biggest achievements till date in ODI’s was this tournament. From being underdogs, they rose to supremacy. They beat big teams like India and Pakistan to set up a final clash against Pakistan. Bangladesh won the toss and elected to field. Mohammad Hafeez scored a fluent 40, but that was the only good thing happened for Pakistan at the start.
They lost wickets at regular intervals and were struggling at 70 for 4 in 21 overs. However, the middle-order of Pakistan batting line-up took the responsibility and scored crucial runs to help Pakistan reach 236 runs at the end of 50 overs. Sarfraz Ahmed top scored with 46 runs.

With an achievable target on board, Bangladesh started their innings on a high, riding on Tamim Iqbal’s 60.
But apart from Iqbal, the top-order failed to make an impact. Saeed Ajmal and Afridi bowled brilliantly to make the run-chase tough for the hosts. Shakib Al Hasan battled hard for Bangladesh, he scored a fighting knock of 68 runs from 72 balls. The match came down to the last over. Bangladesh required 9 runs off 6 balls to clinch their maiden Asia Cup title and Aizaz Cheema bowled the last over for Pakistan. The first four balls went for 2 runs, and Bangladesh needed 4 to get from 2 balls.
In the fifth ball, Abdur Razzaq was bowled, and the hosts required 4 runs from 1 ball. The last ball went for just 1 run and Pakistan won the match by 2 runs.
4. India v Sri Lanka, 4th Match, 2014 :
Kumar Sangakkara’s ton guided Sri Lanka to a famous win over India. Virat Kohli led the young Indian team this time. Angelo Mathews won the toss and elected to bowl. Rohit Sharma was dismissed early for 13 runs by Sachitra Senanayake, and Shikhar Dhawan and Kohli were handled the responsibility of building the score. Dhawan played an excellent knock of 94 and Kohli scored 48 runs to guide India to 264 runs at the end of 50 overs.

In reply, Sri Lankan top-order handled the Indian bowlers with ease. A half-century from Kusal Perera, a 38-run cameo from Lahiru Thirimanne and a century from Sangakkara made things easy for Sri Lanka. They were 148 for 3 in 31 overs, but things started to change from there. Mahela Jayawardene got dismissed for 9 runs, soon Dinesh Chandimal was out for a duck, and Mathews was dismissed for 12 runs, and Sri Lanka were suddenly reeling at 6 for 183. Ravindra Jadeja bowled 10 overs and took 3 wickets for 33 runs.
The match came down to the wire, and Sri Lanka required to get 12 runs from 12 balls with 3 wickets. But, Ajantha Mendis and Thisara Perera made sure Sri Lanka got past the target.
5. Sri Lanka vs India, 11th match, 2004:
A match that will be in our memories for a very long time. The Sourav Ganguly led Indian team beat Sri Lanka by 4 runs to stay alive in the tournament. After winning the toss, India decided to bat. Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar walked out to the crease. Nuwan Zoysa struck early for Sri Lanka, he dismissed the dangerous Tendulkar for 18 runs. In walked, the Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly.

Ganguly and Sehwag smashed the Lankan bowlers all over the park. The duo shared a 134-run partnership before Sanath Jayasuriya dismissed Sehwag for 81 runs. With Ganguly’s 71 runs and Yuvraj’s half-century, India posted 271 at the end of 50 overs.
India held their nerve and overcame Jayasuriya’s blistering century to progress to the finals. When the wickets were falling at the other end, Jayasuriya was rock-solid and smashed 137 runs, before he was finally dismissed by Sehwag. Sri Lanka required 11 runs off last 6 deliveries with 2 wickets in hand. Zaheer Khan bowled the last over for India and gave just 7 runs to see India home.
