Possible scam artists are illegally selling vouchers for the Freedom 251

Ringing Bells' Freedom 251 smartphone was launched amid much fanfare last week and, despite numerous site crashes, not to mention other shady details regarding the phone, the company claims to have received over 7 crore registrations. Unfortunately, it seems that a third party is trying to cash in on the hype.

The Times of India has reported that some people are selling vouchers for the Freedom 251 across Noida, claiming to assure a delivery of the phone once registered. That in itself is strange, as the company has said they will only be shipping devices to the first 25 lakh people that registered by June 30, but it gets worse.

When questioned about the vouchers, Ringing Bells say they have no idea who's involved, and that they're currently only selling their smartphone online.

Company president Ashok Chadda also responded to media reports around the apps and icons on the Freedom 251 UI seeming to be knock offs of Apple icons. He says the reports were based on sample pieces provided to the media (which is true) and that the final product would change.

We still consider it strange, however, as demo units are expected to be representative of the final product, otherwise reviews based on them are moot. So the question is, was Ringing Bells hoping no one would look to closely at the smartphone's intricacies, or are they now possibly stalling for time, as they rectify a gross cost-cutting measure employed by an outsourced development team? As far as can tell, that might be a question only answered when the product delivers in the next few months.
