Defending Champion and Indian Badminton star PV Sindhu loses to USA’s Zhang Beiwen in the final of the $350,000 India Open BWF World Tour Super 500 at the Siri Fort Sports Complex. In the 69-minute long intense Women’s Single final match, the ace Indian shuttler came close to clinching her second consecutive India Open title before losing 18-21 21-11 20-22 to Zhang.

In the opening game Zhang outplayed the Sindhu by 21-18. However, in the 2nd game Sindhu bounced back in style to win the second game 21-11 and apparently took the contest in the deciding game.

In the final game, once again both Sindhu and Zhang showed a tough fight but eventually Zhang emerging as the winner. Towards the end of the final game, at one point both the shuttlers were tied at 20-20. The world No. 11 then took the two consecutive points to turn the result in her favour.

This was the fifth meeting between World Championship silver-medallist Sindhu and Zhang. The Indian shuttler’s head-to-head record against the Chinese-American following the India Open title defeated now stands at 3-2.

Sindhu has always played long matches against Zhang, all of them going to the decider, and it was no different as the duo battled till the last point.

Prior to today's loss, Sindhu had won twice and lost once at the Indonesia Super Series Premier last year against the USA’s Zhang Beiwen.
