Wanted at AKTU job fair: Confident, well-groomed candidates with industry knowledge

AKTU JOB FAIR 2017-18

If you are a recent graduate of the Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU) and have good communication skills, sound industrial knowledge and overall aptitude, then attending the mega job fair 2018 may just land you your dream job.

Human resource representatives of various companies are on the lookout for such candidates at the job fair to be held on March 24 and 25.

“We desire candidates who have a good skill set comprising sound industrial knowledge, confidence, good communication skills and an overall personality. Body language is extremely important in an interview and colleges must ensure that students are well-groomed when they appear in the job fair,” said Aanchal, HR representative, Optimus Information.

The mega job fair will be held in Noida Sector 62 and over 100 companies, including multinationals, will be offering jobs to engineering and management students.

More than 600 colleges are affiliated to AKTU across the state and around 168 of them are located in Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad.

Any student enrolled in an AKTU affiliated engineering or management college and belonging to the batch of 2016-17 and 2017-18 is eligible to apply for the job fair.

The university administration is in the process of wooing companies for the job fair. Companies have asked affiliated colleges to groom students according to industry needs.

Vivek, representative of Mangla Tubes, a company that manufactures tractor products, said, “We often see that candidates lack knowledge about the current industry demands and they are not in sync with the technological advancements that have taken place. Our requirement is designing and we need students from mechanical and electrical background who have an idea of the quality of products our customers demand and the latest technology needed for it. For us technical know-how is a priority and we are willing to accept candidates who can speak Hindi.”

Company representatives also emphasised that they are not necessarily looking for candidates with a brilliant academic background but those who have good life skills.

“Earlier, the requirement to apply for the company was 70% marks but we are reconsidering that condition on the basis that we tend to lose a lot of candidates who are extremely resourceful but not academically sound. We need people who have confidence in them,” Aanchal said.

Representatives from hiring agencies also said the need of companies for today is ‘flexible resources’ who can adapt to the latest technological needs of the industry.

Anubhav Singh, managing director, Path Mentors Staffing Solution, said, “I would recommend students to do some background check of the company in which they intend to apply. They should also appear for mock interviews and appear for self-assessment tests which are available for free on the internet. Companies are looking for candidates who are well-groomed, confident, disciplined and can adapt to the industry needs. They should know microeconomics,” said .

Sanjeev Sharma, advisor of AKTU, said,“The intent of Wednesday’s meeting was to acquaint colleges with industry requirements. Placement heads of colleges have been asked to groom students before they appear for the test.”
