The registration for the two-day Mega Job Fair 2018, hosted by the Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU), will begin on March 5 and continue till March 18, as per as a unanimous decision taken on Wednesday at the university’s Noida campus.

The university representatives said they are targeting 1,500 job placements in the fair.

“We are targeting 1,500 jobs in this year’s mega job fair to which several multinational companies have been invited. Today, a brainstorming session was held on the Noida campus. University representatives and placement heads of about 40 colleges took part in it and arrived at a unanimous decision that online registration of the job fair should start on March 5 and continue till March 18,” said Sanjeev Sharma, advisor, AKTU.

As many as 100 companies will be coming to Noida on March 24-25 to offer jobs to thousands of students belonging to AKTU affiliated engineering and management colleges across the state.

Only students belonging to 2016-17 and 2017-18 batches are eligible to be part of the two-day mega job fair. Over 600 colleges are affiliated to AKTU across Uttar Pradesh and 168 of them are located in Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad and Bulandshahr.

Wednesday’s meeting also focussed on the finer details of the mega job fair which is to be held in March-end.

“Registration for the job fair will be done online and each applicant will have to choose their list of preferred companies for which they would like to apply. However, this year, the registration form will also mention the salary package and vacancies in each company. Moreover, companies will be categorised according to their vacancy related demands such as sales, core and electronics,” Sharma said.

The university had decided to organise the mega job fair, for the first time, in 2017 after the continuous dismal performance of affiliated colleges in campus placements.

Many colleges had failed to avail of even 10% placement for their final-year students. In 2017, 300 colleges failed to enrol even a single student in the counselling process of the university.

In last year’s job fair, over 12,000 students had registered and around 500 students were shortlisted by the companies but hardly 50-60 students got placed, according to sources. The university was also criticised for its shoddy management as many students protested regarding the mismanagement and confusion at the fair.

Reacting to the criticism about last year’s job fair, Sharma said,“This time, we have started our preparations much in advance as we are expecting a footfall which will be more than the previous year. We have created a team of 12-13 people who will oversee the management of the fair.”

“The placement heads of 40 colleges assembled today to ensure that each and every eligible student of AKTU gets an equal opportunity at the fair,” said Yachna Malhotra, IPEM College, Ghaziabad.

The university officials also said they have barred the entry of BPOs in the fair.

“In the 100 companies coming to the fair, we will ensure that not a single one is a BPO company. We also want to invite companies such as yatra.com and makemytrip.com that have never been to any college placement before,” Sharma said.
