April 2, 2011, is probably a day most Team India fans will remember. MS Dhoni's men conquered Sri Lanka in Mumbai to win the World Cup.

It was India's first title since Kapil Dev lifted the trophy in 1983 and also the perfect way for Sachin Tendulkar's World Cup career to end. On his sixth attempt he finally knew what it felt like to be a World Champion.

But the most defining moment of the match had to be Dhoni's winning six at the end. We all remember Arjuna Ranatunga dabbing it past third man for four in the 1996 final and he completely went berserk as Sri Lanka celebrated. However, Dhoni ust stood there, watched the ball as it went over the top, once he knew he had done it he twirled his bat and hugged Yuvraj.

The party in Mumbai had begun but for Dhoni it was the realisation of a dream. Since taking over he led India to the 2007 World T20 crown, the No. 1 Test rank and now finally the World Cup as well.

Dhoni came out when Virat Kohli fell for 33. Along with Gautam Gambhir (97) he steadied the ship and took India home with Yuvraj for company. He finished with 91 not out in 79 balls with 8 fours and 2 sixes. Till the final his own form had been shoddy, but Captain Cool came to the party when he was needed most.

It was the first time a host nation won the World Cup. Sri Lanka won it as co-hosts in 1996 while Australia would host the competition and clinch a 5th title in 2015.

Six years on and that moment of the ball sailing into the crowd to make a nation rejoice is still fresh in our memory.
