Nokia returns to market with first Android smartphone, Nokia 6: price, specifications and more




Nokia will be back can be now written as ‘Nokia is back’. HMD Global, the Finnish company that reserves the rights to use brand Nokia on mobile phones, finally announced its first smartphone on Sunday via official website. Nokia 6 is company’s first Android smartphone, priced at CNY 1699 (roughly Rs 16,000). The newly launched Nokia 6 is currently available for only China market and will be sold on Chinese e-commerce portal JD.com in upcoming weeks.




Nokia fans awaiting for the device to launch in their country shall not feel disappointed. The Nokia Android smartphone will be making its way into global markets soon, as HMD has a bigger plans for it. “The decision by HMD to launch its first Android smartphone into China is a reflection of the desire to meet the real world needs of consumers in different markets around the world… it is a strategically important market,” HMD told Reuters. Prior to this less-fanfare debut of Nokia 6, the first Android smartphone by Nokia was rumored to make its debut at Mobile World Congress 2017, scheduled for February in Barcelona.




More about Nokia 6, the device sports a metal unibody design, built with 6000 series Aluminium. It also features a 5.5 inch FullHD display along with 2.5D curved glass on top. The home button on Nokia 6 has an integrated fingerprint scanner and volume rocker along with power/unlock button on right side of the body. At the bottom, Nokia 6 carries two-grille speakers, USB port Type-C. It has 3.5 mm jack on top for audio output.




Dual-SIM enabled, Nokia 6 runs on Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 SoC with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage. In terms of optics, Nokia 6 offers 16 megapixel camera sensor on the back along with phase detection auto focus and features 8 megapixel front-facing camera sensor. The phone is said to sport an exclusive camera UI. Nokia 6 also features Dolby Atmos support along with ‘dual amplifiers’ to enhance the sound experience on the phone.




Nokia Android devices are expected to offer near-stock Android experience and Nokia 6 would run Android Nougat 7.0 out-of-the-box. Nokia 6 marks the return of Nokia brand into fully Android smartphones and the device is expected to hit stores globally in first half of year 2017. HMD global has plans to launch 6 to 7 Nokia Android smartphones in the year 2017 and is expected make announcements on other devices soon.
