Trailing 0-1 at half-time, India score twice in the second half to beat Spain 2-1 in Junior Hockey World Cup quarters.

India beat Spain 2-1 in the Junior Hockey World Cup quarters in Lucknow on Thursday. Trailing 0-1 at the half-way mark, India did well to score two goals in the second half and beat a spirited Spanish unit for a place in the semi-final.

March Serrahima’s fine touch put Spain ahead in the first half but India staged an emphatic comeback to first equalise, and then find the winning goal.

Simranjeet pounced on the rebound to level the scoring for India in the 57th minute and then it was Harmanpreet Singh’s clinical finish of a penalty corner in the 66th minute which gave India the lead after intense hockey in the two halves.

Last-four spot sealed, and India will now look to enter the final when they take on Australia in Friday’s semi-final.

The hosts last won the Junior Hockey World Cup back in 2001, and would like to get their hands on the trophy this edition.
