Since last one week when Indian Army’s elite commando unit conducted surgical strikes on terror launch pads based in Pakistan occupied Kashmir, Pakistan who is left red-faced has been continuously denying about the military operation.
Since the spokesperson of Indian Army clearly mentioned last week that a large number of terrorists and their supporters died after para-commandos were dropped at the terror launch site, media in Pakistan and some of their leaders have been asking for “proof of strikes”. Most of the ex-servicemen and officers from intelligence community had expressed them for sharing any information, with one ex-chief has also called the idea “disturbing”.
On Tuesday a political slugfest was erupted after AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal and senior Congress leader and former home minister P Chidambaram demanded proof of surgical strikes by Indian Army. Most of the defence observer believe that after these comments made by leaders
of opposition had mixed Indian military affairs with politics.
Some reports suggest that Indian Army has filmed and archived 90 minutes of footage made during the operation in which seven terror launch pads were completely destroyed at different locations in PoK. Most of the Indians believe that secret operation carried out my Indian Army must be kept secret as it will severely compromise Indian methods and tactics while conducting such operations in future. But sharing them will be a good idea!
- It is clear that moments after Uri attack, that claimed lives of 19 soldiers, the Indian Army might have developed a strategy to attack PoK. By releasing the video footage Indian Army’s whole strategy will be exposed to the terrorists and anti-national elements, which is one simple reason that the security forces cannot risk.
- If videos are made public then it will severely compromise methods used by India para-commandos and tactics used by them to neutralise terrorists on September 27. Also if the videos are shared Pakistan will be again in denial mode and will ask for more information.
- The video will also expose the identity of soldiers which India cannot afford, loop holes from where and how India crossed the Line of control and arms and ammunition used by Indian Army to conduct the operation. So even if a video is released, it will be made public with censoring information on strategies and identity and on proper timing.
- On Tuesday a veteran Indian Army officer General Roychowdhury, who served the Indian Armed Forces from 1994 to 1997 said, “It is an ongoing operation and the ISI (Pakistan’s Inter Services Intelligence) and Pakistan army are eagerly looking forward to whatever they can
pick up, particularly from the Indian media, because 80 per cent of all intelligence comes from open sources’.
- Releasing the video or any footage might further embarrass Pakistan Army which may turn the current situation into a full-fledged conflict.
- As Taliban is out of work for last several years and Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf admitted in his book that Pakistan has sold dead bodies of his people to the US for $10,000 during the war with Taliban. So it is not difficult for India to buy intelligence from these
elements for money.
What will happen if India shares proof of surgical strikes with Pakistan:
Even if India shares information of surgical strikes with Pakistan, it is quite difficult for Pak to accept that they were allowing its soil to nurture terrorists. There are chances that if India shares footage on public domain Pakistan may not accept it and ask for more proofs about the strikes. Let’s see in past what Pakistan has done with the proof given by India after terror strikes on Indian soil.
- Pathankot Attack 2016: Earlier this year when India’s strategic base of Pathankot was attacked by terrorists who infiltrated India from the border, Pakistan denied its involvement. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) shared some vital details of the attack, including the identity of some of the attackers who were Pakistani nationals. The NIA also shared details of call-interception between one of the attackers and his family member in Pakistan to their counterpart Joint Investigation Team (JIT) which was later denied by them. The JIT also denied claiming the bodies of the attackers, who later buried on Indian soil.
- 26/11 Mumbai Terror Attack: Despite giving the bulk of evidence to Pakistan, the country had denied its involvement in 26/11 Mumbai terror attack that claimed lives of more than 180 people. It is quite noteworthy that after giving proof of Hafiz Saeed’s involvement in Mumbai terror attack the mastermind is openly roaming on the street of Pakistan. Hafiz Saeed the chief of Jamaat-Ud-Dawa has been giving venomous speeches against India.
- 2001 Parliament Attack: In 2001 the Indian Parliament was attacked by five militants belonging to Laskar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed group. After series of evidence provided to Pakistan on Parliament attack the neighbouring country was not convinced. After the attack, the tensions between both the countries mounted so much that India Army mobilised and deployed its troops to Kashmir and Punjab in what was India’s largest military mobilisation since the 1971 Indo-Pakistani War.
- 1999 Kargil War: The armed conflict between India and Pakistan started after the Pakistani Army started to infiltrate India and challenged India’s existence. During the initial stages of Kargil war, Pakistan blamed that the fighting was by Kashmiri insurgents bt documents left behind the casualties and statements by Nawaz Sharif showed the involvement of Pakistani paramilitary forces, led by General Ashraf Rashid.
