They were pitted up against arch rivals Pakistan in the 1956 tournament with a chance to make it six. Both teams came into the match undefeated and it was hard to choose a winner. After a tough fought battle, India won the match 1-0 thanks to a goal from Randhir Singh Gentle.

After suffering a defeat in the 1956 Final, the Pakistanis were out to seek revenge in the following Olympic games. A similar scenario followed as both the teams came up with an undefeated run to set up another India vs. Pakistan Final. Lady Luck, however, was with Pakistan this time around as the team went home with the gold. All they needed was an early goal from Nasir to secure a 1-0 win.

The India vs. Pakistan saga saw another chapter unfold in the 1964 Olympics.  Pakistan came into the tournament as the defending champions and went on to win all off their group stage matches. India, on the other hand, suffered two ties on their way. After both teams secured wins in their respective semi-final matches, the stage was set for another India vs. Pakistan clash. This time, India defeated Pakistan 1-0 to be the Olympic champions.

Fast forward into the modern era, India and Pakistan squared-off in a thriller in the 2011 Asian Hockey Champions trophy. While the first match ended in a draw, the second one crept into history books. With the championship on the line, India and Pakistan locked horns in the finals. Both teams could not find the net after regular and extra time which pushed the match to penalties. In thrilling fashion, India won the penalty shootout 4-2 thanks to goals from Danish Mujtaba, Rajpal Singh, Yuvraj Valmiki and Sarvanjit Singh.

The match went down to penalties and India came out winning 4-2, just as they did in the 2011 Asian Champions Trophy Final.
