Alcohol overdosing is nothing unusual. Recall your last weekend! The drinks we usually knock ourselves out with have as much 8-25 percent alcohol. Well okay, 40 percent tops.
It’s hard to come across anything beyond 40 percent at bars (unless on demand) because the higher the ABV (alcohol by volume), the higher are your chances of you getting knocked out. But still, there exists a dark land of spirits where ABV can go up to a suicidal 96 percent. Here are 10 of the world’s strongest drinks straight out of hell.
10. Absinthe (45%- 72% Alcohol)
Best known to induce hallucinating effects and also the most easily available strongest alcoholic drink, absinthe sits on the tenth spot on our list. Made with wormwood bark or artemisia absenthium, absinthes are available from 90 Proof (45% ABV) to 170 Proof (85% ABV). However, most people keep it safe and don’t go beyond 72% ABV.
9. Bacardi 151 (75.5% Alcohol)
With alcohol content as high as 75.5% ABV, the bottle of 151 comes with a stainless steel fire arrestor/flame trap vouching for its potency. It is usually used in extremely small quantities for rum-based cocktails like daiquiris and Cuba Libre.
8. Devil Springs Vodka (80% Alcohol)
With 80% ABV or 160 Proof, Devil Springs is one of the most infamous vodkas on the planet. Best used for making flaming shots and cocktails with juices or ginger ale.
7. Sunset Rum (84% Alcohol)
One of the world’s most robust rum, Sunset is armed with 84.5% ABV that can knock the senses out of you if you overindulge. Downing it is inadvisable as it can very likely shred your throat!
6. Good ol’ Sailor Vodka (85% Alcohol)
Vastly consumed in Sweden, this vodka is hardly known to the rest of the world. Bottled at 170 Proof or 85% ABV, this is going to take one hell of a liver to handle.
5. Balkan (176-88% Alcohol )
The strongest Scandinavian drink ever, the Balkan is decked with 88% ABV. It’s strong, colourless, odourless and tasteless. Cases of people dying of alcohol poisoning after consuming a lot in short periods of time have been reported.
4. Pincer Vodka (88.8% Alcohol)
At 88.8% ABV, Pincer is the strongest potent vodka from Scotland.
3. Bruichladdich X4+1 Quadrupled whisky (92% Alcohol)
This is the world’s most alcoholic single malt whiskey with a belligerent ABV of 92%. Thanks to the super precise distillation process, this whiskey is incredibly pure and potent.
2. Everclear (95% Alcohol)
While most will argue that Everclear is the world’s strongest drink, we beg to differ; it isn’t. It actually is the world’s second. This grain spirit contains a suicidal 95 % alcohol and is colourless, odourless and tasteless. If you try too hard to judge its taste, better prepare for a tongue implant. It is manufactured and sold by the American spirit company, Luxco.
1. Spirytus Rektyfikowany (96% Alcohol)
The purity of rectified spirit has a practical limit of 95.6% ABV; this hard to pronounce Polish Vodka is a murderous 96% ABV. In short, abusing this drink can literally make you meet God! Spirytus is actually more potent than the widely-known Everclear and sits atop as the world’s strongest alcoholic beverage.
