Rio Olympics: How are India’s chances to win a medal in two power sports, weightlifting and wrestling?

India are waiting as athletes get ready for the upcoming Rio Olympics. Here we look at India’s chances in weightlifting and wrestling. Both sports have in the past brought glory to India. India will expect this time too. Wrestling has been in news for all the wrong reasons and will need to have medals against its name to shut all controversy. Weightlifting has gone under the radar. Here is our take.

Wrestling: It is difficult to know where to start with respect to wrestling. The sport has been in news for wrong reasons and will be under pressure at the Olympics. It has been one of India’s most bankable sports at the previous two Olympics and will once again look towards glory.

Yogeshwar Dutt is our man. He is a tried and tested athlete and will once again try to put his best foot forward. There can also be a few surprises. India have a big team and our guess is as good as yours.
Weightlifting: It is not a glamour sport, never was and probably never will be. With only Sathish Kumar Sivalingam (77 kg) and Mirabhai Chanu Saikhom (48 kg) being a part of the Indian Olympics team, there is not the biggest hope but hope there is nevertheless.
It is difficult to make seeping predictions and weightlifting has lost a bit of charm in recent years. Rio is the perfect opportunity to find lost glory. The athletes will have to be driven like no tomorrow. For now, we will wait and see.
