Lucknow, Jul 27: Family of Mohammed Akhlaq today met the Uttar Pradesh Additional Director General of Police (ADG) and briefed him about their doubts on the Mathura Lab report which stated that the meat sample recovered from their house was beef. “They have met me and raised questions on certain issues. It will be taken care of during the probe,” ADG (law and order) Daljeet Chowdhury said. The family is of the view that the lab report, which confirmed beef, was not fair and had many “loopholes”.
Akhlaq’s son Sartaj, working with the Indian Air Force, said there were many loopholes in the recent forensic report of Mathura lab, after which the petition demanding legal action against the family was filed. He said his family was being treated like criminals instead of victims. 52-year-old Mohammad Akhlaq was beaten to death on September 28 last year in Bisahra village of Dadri by a mob following rumours that he and his family had stored and consumed beef at their house, triggering a fierce debate over “intolerance” in the country.
