Euro Cup 2016: Switzerland Vs Albania Goals & Video Highlights: Fabian Schar’s helps SWI to 1-0 win against ALB

Switzerland and Albania played out a gritty, tense game at Lens and the tensions between the two nations meant that the tackling was uncompromising. The football range from comical to quality. There were several individual battles in midfield, and one of those happened to be between brothers Granit and Taulant Xhaka. It was the former who gained prominence in this contest. Granit gave Arsenal fans every reason to thrilled about what the midfielder can promise as he was full of energy in the middle of the park. However, the goal came from a calamitous error from Etrit Berisha, who came out of his lines to punch the ball clear but it ended up being a horrible misjudgement on his part as Fabian Schar pounced on it to give Switzerland an early lead .

It was the support from both sides that was another highlight in the game; the stadium was a sea of red and there were boos that could have been heard in Paris whenever Xherdan Shaqiri touched the ball. The spite didn’t bother the Stoke City midfielder as he was a constant menace to the Albanian back-four and it was his corner that caused panic. This was Albania’s first major competition in 70 years and being the seniormost player in the team, Loric Cana should have done better than making two clumsy challenges and getting himself sent off in the first half.

That did not bother the Albanians, who held their lines well and bravely went for the equaliser. Yan Sommer made atleast three world class saves to keep the Swiss lead alive. There were chances at the other end too and Fabian Frei should have done better at when quality reverse ball from Shaqri sent him through.

Vladimir Petkovic was also culpable of wasting a chance but Albania’s Shkelzen Gashi was through on goal, it was almost certain that he would go on to level the scores with five minutes left in the game. Sommer made himself big and got a hand on the shot to parry it behind for a corner. Switzerland would hold on to the lead but it was relief more than a feeling of triumph that the side felt.
