Indonesia
is on high alert after a senior government official revealed the terror
group was planning to put the highly toxic substance in jars of chilli.
Luhut
Pandjaitan, minister for political, legal and security affairs, said:
"ISIS is now using cyanide to terrorise. They are using cyanide to
poison food.
"We have considered various forms of threats and we are prepared to face such a possibility [of cyanide poisoning]."
Militants are believed to have been inspired by a recent murder in Indonesia involving a coffee laced with cyanide.
ISIS
has been linked to cyanide in the past, including in 2014 when the
nascent group allegedly took a large quantity of sodium cyanide from a
town in Iraq.
Fresh
threats from the barbaric Islamist group comes after the Indonesian
capital Jakarta was rocked by terror attacks in January.
ISIS claimed responsibility for the spree of bombs and shootings in a mid-morning rampage that left seven people dead.

Authorities
in Muslim-majority Indonesia have struggled to cope with rising Islamic
extremism, and the country's religious leaders continue to spark
international outage over their radical stance on human rights issues.
The
country's most influential Muslim leaders said earlier today that they
rejected all promotion and support for lesbian and gay groups and
encouraged the government to make gay sexual activity illegal.
Most
of Indonesian society is tolerant, with gay and transsexual
entertainers often appearing on television, but Muslim groups remain
fervently against promoting equality.
