FIH Champions Trophy:India's road to Champions Trophy hockey final

 

After Show improved and attacking Hockey in  the 2016 FIH Hero Champions Trophy, Fate and England Helped India To Reach to Finals of Champions Trophy For the 1st Time in the 36 years History Of Champions Trophy. As India reached the Champions Trophy Hockey final after 36 years, let's take a look how India have performed in this prestigious tournament this year. 

 

# India held Germany 3-3

 

In their opening match of the tournament, India drew with European superpower Germany 3-3. Fans in India appreciated the Men in Blue's superb performance against the Germans. The outcome of the match indicated that India were fully prepared to challenge big teams in Champions Trophy.

 

# India thrashed Great Britain 2-1

 

In their second match, India played excellent hockey to beat hosts Great Britain 2-1. 

 

# Belgium beat India 2-1

 

Belgium registered a 2-1 victory against India in their group match, although the Indians played attacking hockey throughout the 70 minutes.

# India beat South Korea 2-1

 

Before playing against Australia, India performed brilliantly to beat Asian powerhouse South Korea 2-1.

 

# India lost to Australia 2-4

 

In their final group match, India lost to Australia 2-4, but assured themselves a place in the final by finishing second in the standings. India's two goals against the Aussies came from penalty corner shooter VR Raghunath and striker Mandeep Singh. Raghunath and Mandeep played well throughout the match. However, India lost the match because of Trent Mitton, Aran Zalewski, Flynn Ogilvie and Tristian White, who netted the ball for Aussies.

# England helped India reach final

 

After their 2-4 loss to Australia, the Roelant Oltmans-managed side were left to rely on the result between Great Britain and Belgium. While Britain needed to win to make their way into the final, Belgium needed to win by a considerable margin if they were to go ahead. But as India’s luck would have it, the England-Belgium game finished 3-3 to give the "Men in Blue" a chance to exact a revenge against the Kookaburras.
