Suresh Raina turns father, names daughter ‘Gracia’

India’s World Cup winner and Gujarat Lions skipper Suresh Raina has turned a father after weeks of speculations. Raina even came out and rubbished the rumours that were flying around in journalistic circles. Raina, for the first time since the inception of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2008, missed a game, being by pregnant wife Priyanka’s side. On Sunday evening, the couple welcomed their first child, a daughter, naming her Gracia.



Raina has been enjoying a purple patch as a skipper too and his side, the Gujarat Lions have been one of the pace-setters in the IPL so far. Raina’s captaincy has also got widespread praise. Raina and Priyanka married in early 2015, and the affair was celebrated with a lot of pomp and fanfare, with the who’s who of the Cricketing, Bollywood, and the political world turning up for his wedding. MS Dhoni, Raina’smentor and Indian cricket skipper also welcomed a daughter, Ziva last year.



Raina’s presence in the Indian cricket team has got widespread praise over the years for the enthusiasm and positive energy he shows on the field. The Uttar Pradesh stalwart has seen quite a ups and downs over the past few months. He was omitted from the One-Day International (ODI) side at the turn of the year against Australia, but came back strongly in the Twenty 20 (T20s) and led India to victory in a thrilling match at Sydney. The end of India’s tour Down Under saw another slump in Raina’s career.
The 29-year-old’s persisting problems against the short ball continued and had a poor outing in the World T20 and the Asia Cup, that preceded the mega event at home. Raina and Priyanka are one of the most watched couples off the field, after Dhoni and Sakshi. Priyanka though, has kept herself away from the prying eyes of the shutterbugs and the camera.
