Actress Pratyusha Banerjee, who played Anandi in popular television series 'Balika Vadhu', was found dead at her home on Friday, Mumbai Police said. She committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling at her flat, police said.
Pratyusha was rushed to Mumbai's Kokilaben Ambani Hospital where she was pronounced death. The police said the incident took place at around 5pm and Pratyusha's body was found by her boyfriend Rahul Raj Singh, who is also an actor.
No suicide note was found from the flat, police said, adding that exact cause of the death will be known only after an autopsy is conducted. Reports say the actress was going through a bad phase in her relationship with Rahul. She participated in reality show 'Power Couple' with Rahul and the duo were planning to settle down in 2016.
Police said her last status message on WhatsApp read, "Marke bhi muh na tuzse modana" (even after death won't be turning my face away from you) with a smiley.
"She is no more with us. It's shocking. I spoke to her two-three months back and she was fine that time. I am at the hospital...trying to get details," Pratyusha's co star from 'Balika Vadhu', Siddharth Shukla, said.
Pratyusha, 24, belonged to Jamshedpur and her parents have been informed, police said.
She started her career with 'Balika Vadhu' and was also a contestant on 'Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 5' and one of the participants of 'Bigg Boss 7'.
Bigg Boss co-contestant Kushal Tandon said, "The news is absolutely saddening. I know life is tough but why do you need to do this. She was so young, I don't know what happened. Lots of strength to her family during this time."
Pratyusha worked in TV series 'Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya' in 2014 and was last seen in 'Hum Hain Na' as the main female lead.
Pratyusha shot to fame at the young age of 18 when she was selected to replace child star Avika Gor as Anandi on 'Balika Vadhu' in 2010. She left the show in 2013.
Pratyusha was earlier dating businessman named Makrand Malhotra, with whom she had a bitter break-up and against whom she had lodged a complaint for abusive behaviour.
Earlier this year, Pratyusha had filed an FIR against eight men, including three policemen, claiming they tried to barge into her residence in connection with a car loan that her boyfriend Rahul had taken from a bank.
