As fans wait with bated breath for another India vs Pakistan clash in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017, here’s a list of some epic ODI encounters between the two teams in ICC events.

This was the first time India and Pakistan clashed in an ICC event. India chose to bat after winning the toss, but set a modest target of 216. Despite a below-par total, Pakistan lost by 48 runs losing their last eight wickets for just 68 runs. The verbal duel between India wicketkeeper Kiran More and Pakistan’s Javed Miandad made the low-scoring contest fiery.

India reached 287, thanks to Ajay Jadeja’s 22 runs off the final over by Waqar Younis and Navjot Singh Sidhu’s 93 as opener at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. Pakistan were off to a rollicking start provided by openers Aamer Sohail and Saeed Anwar. The script changed dramatically once the openers departed. The contest between Sohail and India pacer Venkatesh Prasad is still fresh with every Indian fan with the latter having the last laugh.

Emotions amongst the fans were running high as the two teams clashed for the first time since the Kargil war. Out of the semifinal race, the win against Pakistan gave fans something to cheer about. Barring Sachin Tendulkar’s strong start, Indian batsmen found the going tough as they could manage only 227 for six in 50 overs. Indian bowlers, especially Venkatesh Prasad, made things difficult for as he claimed 5/27 to restrict Pakistan to just 180 in 45.3 overs.

Shoaib Malik’s magnificent 128 and Mohammad Yousuf’s 87 helped Pakistan post a daunting 302 for nine in their 50 overs. In response, India could manage only 248 in 45 overs. After Sachin Tendulkar fell early, Gautam Gambhir (57) and Rahul Dravid (76) took charge of the chase. But Gambhir’s run-out changed the course of the game as India lost wickets regularly.

India posted 260 for nine with Sachin Tendulkar top-scoring with 85 off 115 balls after being dropped four times and surviving two close leg-before chances. Pakistan were bowled out for 231 after India’s disciplined bowling and athletic fielding which was one of the major reasons for the hosts ending up on the winning side.
