Asian Squash Championship : Dipika & Joshna sets a “All Indian Final”, India is assured of “First Asian Title”



India is assured of winning the “First Asian Title” in the history of 36 years as both Dipika Pallikal & Joshna Chinappa has won their semifinals of Asian Squash Championship respectively.



No .4 seed Dipika Pallikal got the better of no.1 seed in the first semis defeating her in four sets , 11 - 9 , 7 - 11 , 11 - 7 , 11 - 9 . The Hong Kong player made the better start , but Dipika overturned an early deficit to take the lead, Roles were reversed in the second as Annie levelled, but Dipika was back on top form as she took the third set to take the lead by 2 - 1 .



The crowd was thrilled when Dipika led 6 - 1 and 6 - 2 in the fourth, but were quietened as Annie fought back to 7 - all. Dipika bounced back, taking four points in a row to reach her first final of Asian Squash Championship .
“ I’ m so happy to be in the final! , I was playing well to take the first , but couldn’ t keep it up in the second as she came back , so I just had to refocus and focus on playing my game.



“ I’ ll just relax now and look forward to getting myself ready for the final . I hope our coach has an easy time tomorrow, watching an all- Indian final!”, said Dipika after semis .
Next was Joshna Chinappa who didn ’ t took much time to outplay her opponent 6 th seed Tong Tsz of Hongkong .



Joshna was dominating her opponent in all three sets & didn ’ t gave much chance to her opponent to fight back in the match . She defeated her opponent in three straight sets by 11 - 6 , 11 - 4 , 11 - 8 to set up a “ All Indian Final” of Asian Squash Championship.



“ She had a good win yesterday , so I knew it wasn’ t going to be easy, I played to try to make sure she couldn’ t play her shots that she ’ s so dangerous from , and it worked for me today . Dipika and I knew we had a chance to lay each other in the final, so I hop everyone comes to support up – we don ’ t get this kind of appreciation anywhere else !”, said Joshna .




Women ’ s have done their work as they have assured India an Asian Title , while Saurav Ghosal in men ’ s singles section will take on 5 th seed Hong kong’ s Leo Au to set up his first final of Asian Squash Championship.
