Junior Hockey World Cup: India beat Australia in shootout, face Belgium in final

India colts kept their favourites tag intact as they beat formidable Australia in the second semi-final to reach the final of the 2016 Junior Hockey World Cup at the Major Dhyan Chand Hockey Stadium in Lucknow on Friday. The match ended at 2-2 after full time and was decided by penalty shootout, which the hosts won 4-2.
They will now play Belgium, who defeated the defending champions Germany in the first semi-final, in the summit clash on Sunday.

Like their quarter-final against Spain yesterday, India again had to rally from a goal down in the match. Former champions Australia took the lead early in the 14th minute when Tom Craig converted their first penalty corner of the match. The score remained 1-0 in favour of the Aussies at the half-time break.
India came back strongly in the second half and Gurjant Singh made a darting run on the counter to score the equaliser in the 42nd minute. India kept the pressure on the opposition circle and six minutes later, Mandeep Singh reaped the benefit to give India 2-1 lead.
But India failed to maintain the lead for long as Australia level the score through Lachlan Sharp's opportunistic deflection in the 57th minute.
